Every month doTERRA highlights a certain oil in our newsletter and this month they focused on Myrrh essential oil. I love this oil but it isn’t one that I use every day. Because of that, I pulled out my bottle of it and inhaled a big whiff of it to get myself ready to highlight it on this blog post. Myrrh has a scent that is woody, warm, slightly balsamic, and comforting. This oil goes back in history as one of the oils used in meditation practices and spiritual rituals. When you diffuse this oil, alone, or with another oil like Lavender or Sandalwood, it can help support the mood of everyone by calming and soothing the nerves. It is also a great oil to use topically over the chest and neck area to help support congestion and coughs, plus it can come in handy for most respiratory targets. Myrrh oil can also support the digestion, skin targets of all kinds, mouth care, the immune system, emotional balance, and so much more. ~ One of the things that Myrrh oil can be very beneficial for is supporting the skin after you experience a sore or wound. When you apply this gentle oil over the area of concern it helps by forming a natural shield over the area so your skin can stay protected and allow it to benefit in the way it needs to. It’s kind of like having a natural ‘band-aid’ covering it. ~ Myrrh oil is one of our thicker oils so it will leave a residue around the bottle opening and inside the cap. If you have time to wipe the oil off the top of the bottle after each use, this will help to control this from happening. Just never heat the oil up as this can harm the oil and it won’t be truly useful after that. Any questions? Contact me any time!
