One of my favorite things to do during this time of year is to see how many birds, insects and animals I can attract into my yard. I’m talking ‘good’ insects and animals in case I wasn’t clear on that. Butterflies and hummingbirds are two of my favorites so I plant various flowers all over my yard, especially vivid colored ones. These include dill, fennel, lavender, marigolds, and phlox which is a flowering ground cover. I also put hummingbird feeders out with the mixture of cane sugar and water; no red food coloring though, and this brings a lot of the tiny birds around. ~ If you are trying to attract praying mantis’ try planting shrubs, dill, and tall grasses. And bees will be drawn to all pollinating flowers, tomato bushes, squash, and other vegetable plants. Lady bugs are drawn to dill and fennel, plus assorted flowers and plants. ~ Since I am a doTERRA user and sharer, there are also essential oils that can be used in the garden for assorted things. Rosemary and Peppermint oils are well known for their ability to keep pests away, plus they are a natural alternative which means other animals, pets, and kids won’t be affected negatively by them. If you use Melaleuca oil in your garden where you see any fungus growing, simply spritz a mixture of water and this oil right on the plants that are affected. Cinnamon oil will help keep weeds from growing and if you spritz this oil over walkways, in the cracks of driveways, etc., you won’t have a weed problem most of the year. And now for the best part… to attract all good things, use our Lavender and/or Wild Orange oil all over your yard and garden. This includes potted plants and ground covering. If you do all of these things you will have great harmony in your yard and garden and you will do it using the most natural choices possible!
Have a great day! Jana
