How many of you have pets? And how many of you that do, have ever felt those feelings of helplessness when they are suffering from something? I know this feeling all to well since I have 3 dogs, all past the age of 10 years. My 2 brothers are a Shepherd/Husky mix, and I have a 12 year old Chihuahua. There seems to be something I need to tend to regarding their comfort, whether it be soothing their digestion with Fennel or Ginger, or calming them down with Lavender or our Balance blend. But last weekend my Chihuahua had another respiratory event and I was so saddened watching him struggle. He’s only 10 pounds so it’s a lot harder on me then watching my 110 pound brutes deal with something. I’ve written about small dogs and how as they age they are prone to respiratory hiccups, and I’ve talked about which of the doTERRA essential oils can help to relieve and soothe their airways. I have had great luck with our Breathe blend and White Fir always calms my pets when I diffuse it in the air for them, but this past weekend my little guy was showing longer stretches of unease. I knew that Cedarwood oil was helpful for people with respiratory issues so I went up and got my bottle and a couple of cotton balls. I put 1 drop of the Cedarwood oil on each cotton ball and placed them near his dog bed, close to his head. This oil smells just like the tree and dogs are naturally drawn to and relaxed by the scent. It didn’t take long for his breathing to quiet down and he fell into a deep sleep. I then put 5 drops of the oil in my diffuser and ran it all night. The next morning he seemed great, totally back to normal and happy. ~ For more information about our oils and pet care, go to the Search window at the top of this page and type in Pets, or Animals, and everything I’ve written about them will come up!
Have a great day! Jana
