How many of you have ever gotten overly aggressive when you’ve used dental floss or gum picks to clean between your teeth? It’s very common to ‘overdo’ it when you think there might be food stuck in there but let me tell you, rough is not the best way to go. Our gums are delicate and with the wrong pressure even soft dental floss can be harsh to our gums. One of my friends was sharing a personal story with me about how she got a piece of peanut brittle lodged in between her back teeth and her toothbrush just couldn’t extract it. Frustrated, she poked at it with one of those tooth and gum picks with the bristles on them and happened to poke a hole in the gum tissue because she was just poking and picking blindly. This is common so what do you do to calm and soothe the tissue while it’s healing? Well, instead of purchasing those medicated ointments from your dentist, try using a few of our essential oils directly on the affected area. doTERRA’s oils are pure and these ones; On Guard, Clove, Tea Tree, and Frankincense, can be used safely on the sensitive tissue inside your mouth. You can dip the gum picks in the oil and rub it gently on the area, you can put some of the oil on your fingertip and apply directly to the tissue, and you can also put a bit of the oil right on some dental floss and use it in between the teeth so the tissue is supported in every area. The natural power of these oils is amazing and when you realize how well they can support your dental and oral care in most areas, these oils will become ones that you have on hand always.
