Yesterday I went for a six mile walk along the shore of one of our southern most beaches and I got a big fat kiss from the sun. It’s early in the year and I just wasn’t thinking like I do in the summertime. Prepping my skin with sunscreen and essential oils is almost a daily ritual but that habit just flew out the window yesterday. I had a window of time to exercise outside and I jumped on it, as the sun did to my poor, unprepared skin. Luckily for me, I have everything I need to treat sun-kissed skin with tender loving care!
Essential Oils & The Sun
There are many essential oils that doTERRA offers that can support the skin before and after sun exposure. I have my own personal favorites but since there are several choices, let’s look at all of your options right now.
The oils that I use and recommend the most are:
- Lavender
- Helichrysum
- Frankincense
- Immortelle Blend
- Peppermint
Peppermint might sound like an odd choice but let me explain real quick. After sun exposure our skin can become irritated and dry which can cause a slight itchy feeling. Instead of scratching the skin, apply a thin layer of our Peppermint oil and then layer a small amount of Lavender oil on top of the affected skin. Your skin will feel renewed and the itch will cease to exist! ~ A good friend of mine is a surfer and is out in the water a few days a week. She doesn’t like to use OTC sunscreens so she makes her own using our Fractionated Coconut oil and a few drops of Helichrysum and Frankincense oils. This works for her but as always, try these options on your own skin for specific times to determine if they’ll work for your own skin.
More doTERRA to Choose From
doTERRA has several skin creams that are amazing, like my all-time favorite, our Hydrating Blend. It is a concentrated cream for the face and neck areas but you can use it on any targeted spots that need care. I also love our Hydrating Body Mist because it makes your skin feel nourished and renewed in a lightweight formula that lasts all day. This option comes in a spray/mist bottle that makes it easy to apply anywhere on the body that needs it.

Vitamin D is pivotal for bone health and the immune system so just getting outside for 10 to 15 minutes a day can be a huge positive for your body.
