Something has been catching my eye lately when I’ve been out and about… it’s seeing people wearing an article of clothing, or a bumper sticker placed on their car, with a picture of a horizontal thin blue line on it. They seem to be popping up everywhere and some people are even painting this blue line on the curb in front of their homes. What is the meaning behind this? Well, it turns out that this is a sign representing the camaraderie of police officers. It is also a show of support for the police, acknowledging the role they play in society. When people wear this symbol, or paint it near their home, they are letting others know that they fully support and respect the role that they play in our lives. I know for myself I am always happy to see the police around. It makes me feel safer just knowing they are watching over us. ~ There have been a lot of news stories this year about certain ‘bad cops’ who are in the process of being tried for their hand in certain situations, but the majority of police officers are truly good men and women who put their lives on the line for us everyday. These people don’t know how their day is going to unfold each day that they go to work. I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of respect for these people. I’m not sure I would have made the choice to do this particular job because of the dangers involved. And because of that I look at things differently than others might. ~ A couple of weeks ago I went to a friends property while they were out of town because a neighbor called to say 2 dogs were attacking their goats. When I arrived at the scene there were about 7 cops and animal control people there. They had managed to get the dogs corralled and placed into the trucks and were just waiting to see how they were going to get the injured goats in the trucks. I had my friend on the phone so I walked into the pen so I could try and relay the goats injuries to him. It was bad and as I stood next to one of the officers I expressed gratitude that they were able to get the dogs away from the goats. We had a short conversation where I said something about how I thought they deserved more pay for the work they do. The officer looked right at me and said, ” The pay is fine, I just wish people would like us again.” That statement was like a blow to me because I do appreciate them so much and I would hope everyone else would to. So, here’s to all the men and women in Blue…Keep up the good work!
Have a great day! Jana
