Last night before I went to sleep I knew what I was going to write about today. The Turning Point is the perfect title for this blog post for two reasons; First, I want to share a personal story that has changed my life, and second, I want to share another story that has changed a whole family’s life. Let’s start with me…
Give It Up To Gain
Exactly 2 years ago today I quit drinking alcohol. I was a red wine drinker who never really had a problem until about the end of 2018. Lot’s of family drama happened that put me in charge of my parents affairs, including their financial issues which were way above my head. But because I was alone and had no support, I had to figure things out because their lives and futures were in my hands. For those of you who have been through this, you understand and I feel for you. The stress can seem insurmountable and there’s no way to go anywhere but forward. And this is when I turned to more wine for comfort… alone at night when no one could know. The problem was, I had a full plate of responsibilities every morning and the fogginess that the wine brought with it was horrible. It took me half the day just to feel productive and then I’d tell myself I wouldn’t do that again, but I continued to repeat this pattern. After my father passed in February of 2019 things got really bad. I won’t go into details but one morning in June I woke up feeling horrible and I went into my closet and said out loud, ‘I don’t want to drink anymore.’ That afternoon I joined a 21 day reset program that had been crossing over my IG feed for a few weeks and I never looked back. I continued on after the 21 days and here I sit today, alcohol free, healthy, active, productive, and not a foggy morning to be had. I never knew I was so strong, never thought I would ever be successful in this endeavor yet here I am. And the really amazing thing is, I have no cravings for alcohol at all. I socialize with friends who drink when we’re out and I have zero issues. One girlfriend who has been sober for over six years told me that you just have to be ready to quit. You have to really want it out of your life. The desire for change has to be greater than the addiction. I hit that turning point and look at me now… so grateful I can’t even put it into words.
How doTERRA Helped Me
I have been using essential oils since early 2011 so I was used to having them as part of my daily routine. When I gave up my wine I had to find a replacement for the nightly hand-to-mouth activity that people get so used to when they drink. ~ It’s 5 o’clock…time for a glass… ~ So instead of giving up that activity, I started to make fun tonic or sparkling water drinks mixing in fruit, plus different essential oils. Some nights I’d choose Lemon oil, others I’d choose Lime, and so on. The taste of the drinks was satisfying and refreshing, plus, the benefits to our bodies that the oils bring can be a really positive addition. And at night when you have problems falling asleep, which you will at first, I chose to diffuse different relaxing oils in my room. Our Serenity blend is a perfect choice, as well as our Peace blend, Lavender, the Balance blend, and I like all of our Fir oils because they are so comforting to me. Whatever I needed, doTERRA came through for me and I know that having the support from the oils made a huge difference in the outcome of this journey.
The Turning Point For Melissa
One of my favorite things about sharing doTERRA with people is the friendships I’ve made along the way. A family that I introduced the oils to back in the beginning has since incorporated the oils and products into their lives fully. Their everyday items, like toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, body lotion, nutrition drinks, supplements, OTC choices for head tension, digestive support, muscle tension, respiratory support, and so much more has been completely replaced by the items that doTERRA offers. When natural, plus effective, come into play it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize what the best choices are. And when we’re talking about family, only the best will do.
If you’d like to talk with me personally about any of these topics, feel free to reach out to me at any time. I love to share and I believe there’s so much to gain when we get together for common interests.
Have a beautiful day…. Jana
